As AI-generated art becomes increasingly prevalent, the line between originality and derivation blurs, leading to questions about the value of art and the definition of an artist in the age of artificial intelligence. Redefining the Artist's Role: Embracing Web3 with Rime Salmi
I got a chance to sit down with singer, song writer, music NFT artist, and businesswoman Rime Salmi at ETH Denver this year - Lina Pauline Schrott
In my interview with her, we dive deep into Rime’s path toward authenticity and hear about the one big opportunity that started her music career.
Born to Moroccan parents and raised in Canada, Rime grew up a child of many cultures. Her music became a way to channel her challenges in being torn between two cultures: her traditional Moroccan heritage and her Western Canadian upbringing.
She started performing cover songs on YouTube around 2012. At the beginning of 2018, Rime released her single ''Don't Wanna Hear it'' a song featuring Nigerian-American artist Meaku, which has been featured on many Spotify playlists accumulating over 380K plays.
Rime founded her own record label, called MIH Records after feeling misrepresented by the record label she was working with. In 2021 Rime started her journey into Music NFT’s, by hosting Twitter spaces that included releases of her music NFT capsules.

David Bowie's unreleased version of the 1983 hit song "Let's Dance" will soon be available through a limited series of NFTs. Gala Music, an offshoot of Web3 startup Gala Games, is partnering with music producer Larry Dvoskin and publisher Warner-Chappell Music to release 3,003 NFTs on April 14th, exactly 40 years after the song's original debut. Each NFT will feature Bowie-inspired artwork and grant the holder access to the rare version of the song, produced in 2002. The NFTs will be sold using a pay-what-you-wish model, with all initial proceeds benefiting MusiCares, a charity supporting the music community.

It's wrong for a handful of billionaires to decide what's good and safe for the world – even well-intentioned AI leaders, says technologist and crypto investor Peter Vessenes.
